AISS Admissions Update: Interviews Coming Soon

The admissions process for the Erasmus Mundus Master’s in Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Societies (AISS) is currently underway.

At the moment, the admission committee is carefully reviewing all submitted applications that received a positive preliminary evaluation. This stage requires time and attention to ensure that every application is evaluated fairly and thoroughly.

Applicants can expect the following timeline:

  • Selected candidates will be invited for interviews between mid-March and the end of March.
  • Those invited for an interview will receive further instructions before the interview period begins.

We kindly ask all applicants for their patience while the admissions committee completes the review process.

How to Prepare for the AISS Interview

To help future applicants feel more prepared, we asked current AISS students to share their experience and advice:

Understand the programme and your motivations

According to Aladino Alegria, preparation starts with understanding the values behind the programme.

He recommends reviewing the programme website and reflecting carefully on how your research interests align with the broader goals of AISS, including sustainability and social impact. Rather than memorizing answers, he suggests organizing your thoughts around key ideas such as your academic interests, future goals, and the role AI can play in addressing societal challenges.

Practice explaining your ideas

Ruth Selorme, another AISS student, emphasized the importance of preparation through practice.

One effective strategy is to simulate the interview with friends. Having them ask questions and give feedback can help you become more comfortable explaining your ideas and motivations.

She also recommends reviewing your application materials (especially your motivation video) to ensure your responses during the interview remain consistent.

Managing interview anxiety

Interviews can feel intimidating, especially when the opportunity matters to you.

One helpful mindset Aladino shared is to treat the interview as a conversation rather than a test. The interview panel is interested in understanding your motivations, ideas, and perspectives.

Taking a brief moment to think before answering is completely acceptable and often leads to clearer responses.

I appreciated that the interview felt less like a technical test and more like a conversation about ideas, curiosity, and perspectives. This made the discussion engaging and allowed me to share my motivations more naturally.

Practical tips

Before the interview, consider a few simple preparations:

  • Test your internet connection, microphone, and camera
  • Choose a quiet and comfortable environment
  • Dress in a way that helps you feel confident

Authenticity also matters. Being honest about what you know, and what you are eager to learn, can be more powerful than trying to give perfect answers.
