Design systems in focus: AISS students challenged designers at World Usability Day Estonia

The annual World Usability Day Estonia 2024 conference, which brought together designers, developers, and usability experts from diverse fields, took place on November 22nd at the Kultuurikatel.

As one of the organizers of the event, Tallinn University School of Digital Technologies used an interactive method to engage conference attendees. AISS students presented a thought-provoking and hands-on game “Match the Buttons.”

The session offered a playful yet insightful challenge for designers of all experience levels, encouraging them to explore design systems in an enjoyable and practical way. Designed and led by students of the master’s program Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Societies Ligia Anjos and Ali Bilal Baloch, the game attracted local designers eager to test their knowledge and skills.

The concept behind “Match the Buttons” was deceptively simple: participants were tasked with identifying which button belonged to which design system. Even though the game seemed simple, it led to a closer look at the parts of design systems. Participants started analyzing important elements like color, typography, shape, and interaction patterns, which are all key to a system’s identity.

The activity was a reminder that there’s always more to learn, even for experienced professionals. For designers and others eager to continue their learning journey, TLU team offered opportunities to continue mastering their skills in programs such as Interaction Design (100% online), Human-Computer Interaction, Digital Learning Games, and Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Societies. These programs help designers grow their skills while balancing work and study.

“We understand that today’s professionals are busy and often prefer to work while studying,” says Mustafa Can Özdemir, a PhD student and visiting lecturer in UX Evaluation at TLU. “That’s why our programs are designed with flexibility in mind, offering online or hybrid formats that make it easier to balance work and study. It’s never too late to start learning and advancing your career”.

World Usability Day Estonia 2024 created a great opportunity to bring together a community of designers and technologists to learn, connect, and innovate.

The borrower who may have applied for a home loan or any kind of loans as an example, knows that a worse credit rating is usually, the more complicated it is to get a decent financial loan. In addition, it may affect a new borrower’s power to find a reasonable place to lease or hire, if that gets the alternative homes solution. Good blog post.

  12. I’ve learned quite a few important things as a result of your post. I’d also like to mention that there will be a situation that you will make application for a loan and never need a co-signer such as a National Student Support Loan. However, if you are getting that loan through a standard loan service then you need to be willing to have a cosigner ready to assist you. The lenders will probably base their own decision over a few issues but the most significant will be your credit rating. There are some lenders that will additionally look at your job history and determine based on this but in many cases it will hinge on your rating.
